A Writing Guide for Learners of German
Integrating Schreiben lernen into your Courses
Integrating with the German AP Exam
In the redesigned Advanced Placement course in German, students learn to communicate in different modes (interpersonal, interpretive, presentational) on subjects related to six overlapping themes (Global Challenges, Beauty and Aesthetics, Families and Communities, Personal and Public Identities, Contemporary Life, and Science and Technology). In its focus on different text genres and modes, Schreiben lernen can be a valuable supplementary resource as AP students develop their writing skills. Click the link below for more information about how the content of Schreiben lernen corresponds to the six themes of the Advanced Placement course and exam, as well as how the writing assignments in Schreiben lernen provide practice for the two written tasks on the AP exam (e-mail reply and persuasive essay).

Integrating at the Post-secondary Level
Schreiben lernen can be used as a main text and workbook for a writing and communication course. However,Schreiben lernen can also be used as a resource and workbook to harmonize and articulate a whole program or curriculum. By focusing on eight types of writing across three levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced),Schreiben lernen enables a department to outline which types of writing and genres are handled at which levels and in which courses throughout their program.
In addition, Schreiben lernen can be used as a supplementary text with any college curriculum. Examples of how to integrate Schreiben lernen with two common college texts and with common content themes are linked here:
