[i] Morgan (real name – Norman Fredenthal) (1906-1977).  A member of the CP of Canada (CPCan)from 1925, of the CC CPCan between 1933 and 1959, and of the National Executive Committee (Political Bureau) of the CC CPCan in 1933-1957 and in 1966-1977. In 1938-1939 and in 1966-1977, he was a Secretary of the party’s CC. Between 26 April and 16 August 1937, he was the representative of the CPCan in the ECCI.

[ii] Salim-Abud (real name – Mahmud Mogrebi) (born in 1905).  A member of the CP of Palestine from 1930; a member of the CP of Syria and its CC from 1933; a member of the ECCI from 1935. After June 1936, he was the representative of the CP of Syria in the ECCI. In the late 1937, he left for Syria.

[iii] Maria Choban (real name – Elena Filipovici) (1903-1937).  A member of the Social Democratic Party of Romania from 1919; a member of the CP of Romania from 1922, and of its CC and the Political Bureau after 1931. Between 1931 and 1933, she was a representative of the CP of Romania in the ECCI. She was arrested and, on 15 December 1937, the Military Board of the Supreme Court of the USSR sentenced her to be shot.

[iv] Richard Avgustovich Mering (1901-1938).  A member of the RKP(b) from 1920. From 1923 to 1928, he worked in the KIM apparatus, and after 1930, in the ECCI apparatus. Between 1930 and 1931, he was a Secretary of the CC of the CP of Estonia.  Between 1935 and 27 July 1937, he was the representative of the CP of Estonia in the ECCI and an assistant to the ECCI Secretary A. Marty. After his arrest, he was expelled from the VKP on 28 July 1937 as an “enemy of the party and the people."

[v] David Yefimovich Petrovsky (real name – Lipets) (1886-1937).  A member of the Bund from 1902, and of the RKP(b) from 1919. From 1924 to 1929, he worked in the ECCI and was the ECCI’s representative in the CP of Great Britain. In 1928, under the alias A. J. Bennet, he became a candidate member of the ECCI Presidium. After 1929, he worked in Soviet organizations. In March 1937, he was arrested and later repressed.

[vi] Georges Cogniot (1901-1978). A member of the CPFr from 1921, he was a member of its CC between 1937 and 1964. In 1937, he was a representative of the party in the ECCI. Between October 1937 and 1948, he was editor-in-chief of the L’Humanite, the central party organ. Between 1948 and 1951, he was the representative of the CPFr in the Cominform Bureau in Bucharest.

[vii] Konrad Mayer (1903-1983).  A member of the CPSwit from 1923, of its CC in 1930-1936, and of its Political Bureau and CC Secretariat in 1932-1935. Between 1935 and 1938 he was the representative of the CPSwit in the ECCI. In 1938, he left for Switzerland.

[viii] Antonio Escabedo (born in 1909).  A member of the CP of Cuba from 1932. After 1936, he was the representative of the party in the ECCI.

[ix] Stephan Fleischer (real name – Johann Grzetic) (1896-1937).  A member of the CPYu from 1919, and of its CC from 1928. He was the party’s representative in the ECCI between November 1935 and August 1937. The ICC Commission resolved on 26 March 1937 “to relieve Fleischer of his duty as the party’s representative in the ECCI.”  He was arrested on 14 August 1937.  On 3 October 1937, he was sentenced by the Military Board of the Supreme Court of the USSR to be shot.

[x] Bekir Ferdi (real name – Shefik Khusniu Husein Ogly) (born in 1890).  A member of the CP of Turkey (CPT) from 1919, and of its CC in 1920-1925 and in 1932-1946. Between 1920 and 1925, he was General Secretary of the CC of the CPT. In 1925-1927 and in 1935-1937, he was the CPT representative in the ECCI. In July 1937, he left for Turkey. After WWII, he was a leader of the legal Turkish Socialist Worker-Peasant party. He was a member of the ECCI in 1928-1935 and a member of the ICC in 1935-1943.

[xi] Bostandzhi Marat (real name – Ismail Bilen) (1902-1983).  A member of the CPT from 1922, and of its CC from 1927. In 1927-1929 and 1933-1936, he was a member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the CC. Between 1937 and 1943, he was the representative of the CPT in the ECCI. On 6 June 1974, he was elected General Secretary of the party’s CC: from April 1983, he was Chairman of the party.

[xii] Ladislaus Farkas (real name – Alexander Pohl) (1898-1937).  A member of the CPG in 1921-1923, and of the CPH from 1925. In 1931, he was the representative of the CPH in the ECCI. On 30 May 1937, he returned to the USSR as a candidate for the position of the ECCI representative. He died on 7 August 1937 before he could take the post.

[xiii] Stephen Mason (real name – Purdey) (born in 1904).  A member of the Labor Party of Australia in 1931 for two months; in September he joined the CP of Australia. After 1935, he was a member of the party’s CC.  Between 22 March 1936 and 28 July 1937, he was the representative of the CP of Australia in the ECCI. He left for Australia due to poor health.

[xiv] Yan Martinovich Krumin (alias Pilat) (1894-1938).  Retroactively he was considered a member of the Bolshevik party from 1912. In 1915-1918, he was a member of the CC of the Social Democrats of the Latvian region. From 1919, he was a member of the CC of the CPLat, and in 1922 became Secretary of the CC. He worked in the Latvian section of the ECCI from 1932 and was the party’s representative in the ECCI between 1935 and September 1937. After 1935, he was a candidate ECCI member. On 1 December Krumin was arrested. On 8 December, he was expelled from the VKP as an “enemy of the party and the people.” On 15 March 1938, the Military Board of the Supreme Court of the USSR sentenced him to be shot.

[xv] Fan Ling (real name – Deng Fa) (1906-1946).  A member of the Kuomintang party from June 1925, and of the CPC from August 1925. In 1935, he became a member of the party's CC; he was later a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC. Between December 1936 and November 1937, he was a member of the Chinese delegation in the ECCI. Between March and November 1937, he worked in the ECCI’s Secretariat.

[xvi] Rudolf Semionovich Vitol (born in 1903).  A member of the CPLat from 1921. Between 1922 and April 1923, he was imprisoned in Riga. In April 1923, after an exchange of political prisoners, he went to the USSR.  After March 1936, he worked in the ECCI apparatus in A. Marty’s Secretariat on the colonies.

[xvii] Regarding Vitol, Protocol No. 2 of the 27 May 1937 meeting of the Special Commission to verify the workers of the ECCI apparatus reads: “verify additionally at the moment of the exchange [of party documents].”
